The Lesotho Ministry of Health (LMOH) contracted Intaka for the supply of medical gas plants & piping for the ICUs at Berea and Motebang Hospitals. Intaka previously completed projects with the LMOH with the successful installation of medical oxygen PSA generation & pipeline systems at various hospitals throughout the country, which included these two hospitals.
Intaka’s medical gas technician first started the installation at the ICU in Berea Hospital, where an existing building was converted to an ICU. The installation included a triplex medical air compressor, a triplex vacuum Plant, a 2 x 8 Oxygen Manifold, gas alarms, 210 m of medical gas piping terminating in 4 horizontal Bed Head Units (BHU’s). The installation was handed over to the Hospital on the 26th of October 2023.
The installation team then proceeded to install, test and commission the same medical gas equipment (as supplied to Berea Hospital) at the newly renovated ICU at Motebang Hospital. The installation was challenging in that the plant rooms were extremely small, however the equipment was made to fit where pressure vessels (both air and vacuum) were raised and fixed to walls in order to win additional space. The pipeline installation comprised of some 253m of medical piping connected to 18 vertical bed head units (BHU’s). The project was successfully completed on time and to the satisfaction of the Hospitals Management and the LMOH and was handed over on the 03 November 2023.
